Now that you understand why it would be great to move to Anchorage, or at least own a vacation home there, make sure you check the location of the house. This seems like an obvious thing to do when purchasing a home, but it is even more imperative when moving to Alaska. Most of Anchorage is densely populated; the city consists of about 260,000 residents. But some of the more secluded outskirts of Anchorage may be too secluded. There may be no streetlights or no shopping centers close to your residence. Unless you have extensive wilderness skills, you should be near some civilization in case of heavy snowstorms. And narrow, icy roads can lead to a hazardous environment.
